Dear SRHS Parent/Guardian,

Thank you for entrusting the education of your child to Salt River High School. We value this opportunity as we know the important role that education plays in the future of every child.

The Arizona Department of Education recently released school letter grades for the 2016-17 school year; our school received a "D." Over the next 90 days, we will be developing a plan for school improvement that will be based on the following six principles:

  • Effective Leadership
  • Effective Teachers & Instruction
  • Effective Organization of Time
  • Effective Curriculum
  • Culture, Climate and Conditions
  • Family Engagement

Our process for drafting this plan will include a comprehensive needs assessment, a root cause analysis and development of needs statements and desired outcomes. From this information, we will develop goals, strategies and action steps for our school's Integrated Action Plan. Finally, we will establish a system for monitoring and evaluation to implement these strategies during the 2018-19 school year. Then, on Tuesday, August 7, 2018, we will hold a public meeting with school staff, parents/guardians and other stakeholders to present the school improvement plan, including results from the process described above. More details about this meeting are forthcoming, so please make sure SRHS has your current contact information on file.

While we're looking ahead, our focus will be on literacy during the upcoming 2018-2019 school year, as Salt River Schools believes strengthening the reading skills of all students is of vital importance. To this end, the Division has purchased new English Language Arts materials for all grade levels and all K-12 Instructional staff will receive training on these new materials. We began the process to upgrade our ELA curriculum before the start of last school year and look forward to refocusing on the foundations of reading, implementing new literacy strategies and continuing to support student achievement in all academic areas.

We look forward to what next year brings as we continue our educational journey. Salt River Schools and Salt River High School will continue to communicate our progress toward student proficiency, and we appreciate your input and involvement.

Sincerely,

Brian Mabb, Principal
