Updated Jan. 3, 2022

Dear Salt River Schools Families,

Today I made the decision to have our schools return to virtual (at-home) learning beginning Tuesday, Jan. 4. We will return to in-person learning on Tuesday, Feb. 1. This is for all students at the Early Childhood Education Center, Salt River Elementary School, and the Accelerated Learning Academy.

This decision was not made lightly. Out of an abundance of caution for the rising concern around COVID-19, the decision to transition our schools to virtual learning was made to allow impacted staff and students to isolate at home, get tested if they are experiencing symptoms, and help keep the spread of COVID-19 to a minimum.

Teachers and staff will be in contact with families about the information below and their virtual classroom expectations for the month of January. Here is the information you need for this week:
SRS Remote Equipment Distribution Schedule

ECEC
Thursday, Jan. 6 | 10-11:30 a.m.
ECEC families can pick up supplies (diapers, wipes, learning materials, etc.) from the bus loop (entrance off Chaparral Road). Please let your child’s teacher or Family Advocate know if you are in need of specific supplies. Questions? Call 480-362-2200.

SRES
Tuesday, Jan. 4 | 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
(or as scheduled with your child’s teacher)

  • FACE-2nd Grade: Pick up virtual learning materials and equipment from the SRES front office along Center Street.
  • 3rd-6th Grade: Pick up virtual learning materials and equipment from the bus bay area along Highland Avenue.

Questions? Call 480-362-2400.

ALA
Tues., Jan. 4 & Wed., Jan. 5 | 8:30-10:30 a.m.
(or as scheduled with ALA staff)
ALA students/families may pick up their laptops, chargers, and supplies outside the front office of the NEW location (the former SRHS building at 4827 N. Country Club Drive). Questions? Call 480-362-2130.

TUTORING
Tutoring, both during the day and afterschool, will begin Monday, Jan. 10. If your family has already signed up for tutoring you will be contacted this week. For more information, reach out to Lea Lee at Lea.Lee@saltriverschools.org or call 480-362-2063.

SCHOOL MEALS
Breakfast and lunch meals will be pre-packaged and available drive-thru style beginning Tuesday, Jan. 4, from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Early Childhood Education Center. Drive-thru meals are for any SRPMIC child under 18, regardless of where they attend school; we cannot transport meals at this time, but plan to at a later date. These meals will be available every weekday through Monday, Jan. 31. If you have questions about meals, please contact our Food Services Manager, Shannon Reina, at 480-362-2242, or email catering@saltriverschools.org.

If you have questions about COVID-19, its symptoms, and how to stay healthy, visit the SRPMIC COVID-19 information page. If you have specific questions about COVID-19 testing or vaccine options, please call the SRPMIC COVID-19 Hotline at 480-362-2603.

Updated Aug. 9, 2021
As school gets fully underway, this is a reminder to continue practicing good health hygiene to prevent the spread of germs. Let’s work together to keep our children and the Community healthy. Bacteria and viruses, including common colds, spread easily among children in schools. Here are some simple prevention practices to use in your home:

  • If possible, your family is encouraged to receive vaccinations to prevent the flu and COVID-19.
  • Wear a face mask. It is required within SRPMIC, including all of our school buildings (ECEC students do not need to wear a mask; however, staff will assist children in wearing one upon parent request).
  • Cover your nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing.
  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available (use soap and water as soon as it’s available).
  • Disinfect frequently-touched surfaces and shared items at least once a day.
  • Teach children not to touch their mouth, nose, and eyes. Adults should practice this, as well.

Please keep your child home if they have:

  • a fever of 100 degrees or higher
    • Your child must be naturally fever-free (temp below 100 degrees without medication) for at least 24 hours before returning to school. This is important!
  • any flu-like symptoms, including fever, chills, cough, sore throat, headache, and muscle aches
  • any common cold symptoms, such as stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat, or hacking cough

We must all remain calm, vigilant, and educated to stop the spread of COVID-19 and other illnesses to ensure our lives continue with as little disruption as possible. However, not every sneeze or cough means someone has COVID-19; if you believe you or a family has COVID-19, please get tested. To schedule a COVID-19 test, call the SRPMIC COVID-19 hotline at 480-362-2603.

If your student tests positive for COVID-19, please inform your school leaders immediately, or call 480-362-2500 and we will direct your call to the appropriate staff. Salt River Schools works directly with the SRPMIC Epidemiologist and will notify families of any test-confirmed COVID-19 cases that impact our schools, students, and staff.

I invite you to review our Health & Safety Plan, as well as links to the Community’s health guidance, which we follow and enforce. Any school updates or notices with regard to COVID-19 will be posted to that webpage within 24 hours.

Wishing you well,

Dr. Vicky Corlett

A message from the SRPMIC Epidemiologist

For fully vaccinated people who have come into close contact with someone with COVID-19:

  • Get tested 3-5 days following the date of exposure.
  • Wear a face mask in public, indoor settings for 14 days or until they receive a negative test result.
  • Isolate if they test positive.
  • Fully vaccinated people who live in a household with someone who is immunosuppressed, at increased risk of severe disease, or unvaccinated (including children under 12) could also consider masking at home for 14 days following a known exposure or until they receive a negative test result.
  • Fully vaccinated people should monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 for 14 days following an exposure.

Most fully vaccinated people with no COVID-like symptoms do not need to quarantine or be restricted from work following an exposure to someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19, if they follow the testing and masking recommendation above.

If you are not fully vaccinated, need a COVID-19 test, or have additional questions, please call the SRPMIC COVID-19 Hotline at 480-362-2603.
